HVAC licenses in Wyoming
There is no statewide HVAC contractor license that we could find; cities or counties license HVAC work.
Local rules: We could not confirm a statewide HVAC contractor license in Wyoming, and we did not find an official page that states outright that none exists. The state Department of Fire Prevention and Electrical Safety site we read lists only electrical licensing (master and journeyman electricians, electrical and low voltage contractors; its Electrical Board authority is W.S. 35-9-103), and its pages do not mention plumbing, HVAC or mechanical licensing. We confirmed city-level licensing in two cities. Cheyenne: its Contractor Licensing Board regulations (March 2026 edition) define HVAC as Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning, place those trades in the tested Class C1 subcontractor license, require both a company license and a registered Individual Qualified Supervisor, and require job-site employees to hold master, journeyman or apprentice licenses; the Board describes its authority as coming from Wyoming statute allowing cities to license building contractors and certain building and professional trades. Casper: Community Development lists 'Plumbing, Mechanical, and Individual Contractor Licenses' (ICC exams, notarized experience affidavits, proof of insurance, Chief Building Official approval). We did not research other Wyoming cities or counties.
Ask for the license issued by your city or county building department (for example Cheyenne's company license plus qualified supervisor, or Casper's mechanical contractor license), confirm it with that office, and check that a permit is pulled.
Federal rule: in every state, technicians who handle refrigerant must hold EPA Section 608 certification, whatever the state or city requires.
We could not confirm every detail from Wyoming’s own sources, so treat this as a starting point and check with the agency.

Questions to ask
Ask every company the same questions: license number, insurance, EPA refrigerant certification, a written itemized estimate, a load calculation for new equipment, after-hours rates, who pulls the permit, and the warranty. All eight questions.
Seasonal care
Getting through a Cheyenne winter
Heating season is the long one in Cheyenne, so the furnace, boiler or heat pump does most of the work. Start with these before the first cold snap – and keep carbon monoxide alarms working.
