Editorial policy
How we research, write, update and correct our guides – and what we will not do.
Who writes our guides
Guides on Heating and Cooling are researched and written by our editorial team for homeowners. We are a directory, not an HVAC company, and no HVAC business or manufacturer writes, pays for or approves what we publish.
Sources
For rules and standards we rely on primary sources: federal agencies such as the U.S. Department of Energy and the EPA, state licensing boards and statutes, and industry standards bodies such as ACCA and AHRI. Company facts in the directory come only from each company’s own website – see How we list.
What we leave out
We do not publish ratings, reviews or “best of” rankings, and we avoid prices that go out of date quickly. Where a rule changes often – incentives, local permits – we point you to the official source rather than repeat it.
Safety
Every guide puts safety first: gas, carbon monoxide, electricity and refrigerant work belong with professionals. Our guides are general information, not professional advice.
Updates and corrections
Each guide shows when it was last updated. If you spot an error – including in a state license summary or a company listing – email [email protected]. We correct factual errors promptly and note significant changes.
Advertising
HVAC companies can pay for labeled placements on city pages. Advertisers never influence our guides, our listing rules or the A to Z order.
