How Nevada licenses HVAC work
HVAC contractors are licensed by the state.
Who licenses: Nevada State Contractors Board (NSCB)
License types: C-21 Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning, C-1 Plumbing and Heating (subclassification C-1f Heating, Cooling and Circulating Air).
Companies: Under NRS 624.700 it is unlawful to act as or bid as a contractor without a Nevada State Contractors Board license, and HVAC work falls under specialty classifications: C-21 for refrigeration and air-conditioning, and C-1f for heating, evaporative cooling and air circulation (C-1f does not cover cooling systems that use refrigeration). Work under $1,000 may be done unlicensed only if no building permit is needed and it is not plumbing, electrical, refrigeration or air-conditioning work.

Search the company on the NSCB license search and confirm its license is in good standing with a C-21 or C-1 classification that matches your job.
Federal rule: in every state, technicians who handle refrigerant must hold EPA Section 608 certification, whatever the state or city requires.

Before you hire
Ask for the license number and check it on the official lookup where one exists. Ask for proof of insurance and a written, itemized estimate, and ask who pulls the permit if the job needs one – a new furnace, heat pump or air conditioner usually does.
